This is an exciting “hands on” development role that will push your existing Android skills. The apps that you develop will be used by millions of people around the world.
Experience Requirements
• 2+ years’ recent experience in developing complex applications and UIs for Android from scratch including applications using the Java Native Interface
• 2 years low level Android protocol development using TCP/IP in C/C++
• You shall have developed one or more of the following Apps for Android:
o VOIP, Instant Messaging, XMPP or other messaging types.
o Call or SMS blocker
o Anti-virus
o App that uses TCP / UDP in a proprietary protocol (not http/s) for real time communication e.g. networked game
o Media (video / audio) streaming or compression.
o Encrypted communication protocols.
• Excellent Java and strong C++ skills.
• Experience with Agile principles and practices such as TDD, Continuous Integration and sprint/release planning and execution.
• Experience targeting devices with a variety of screen sizes (including tablets).
• Linux shell scripting.
• Understanding of common network protocols and internet architecture (TCP/IP, HTTP,HTTPs, SSL, DNS etc)
• Experience with
o Ant, Maven or similar.
o Subversion, CVS or similar.
o Hudson, Jenkins or similar.
o Junit, mock objects etc.
• Degree or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Ability to learn quickly and work without supervision.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
• Experience of Android 2.2, 2.3 and 4.0.
• Demonstrated aptitude for developing high quality software for smartphones and looking for new ways to improve software quality.
• Experience of developing mobile applications for iOS, J2ME, RIM, BREW or Symbian platforms.
• Python scripting.
• Interest in Android UI design and usability.
• C2DM or other push notification service.
• Automated testing frameworks for Android such as Roboelectric, Robotium, Monkey Talk or similar.
• Understanding of 3G mobile network architectures.
• Software quality frameworks such as PMD or FindBugs
