HDD vypinanie a zapinanie

Zdravim.
Pouzivam notebook Lenovo G550. Je tam pevny disk WD Scorpio Blue 320 GB SATA Hard Drives (WD3200BEVT). Neviem ako by som to popisal, ale mam pocit, ako keby sa disk kazdu chvilku vypinal, resp. zapinal. Napr. niekedy 2x, niekedy 3x za minutu sa disk akoby znovu rozbiehal. Toto sa deje normalne za chodu systemu. Pri praci to vyzera asi tak, ze ked napriklad pozeram film, tak pri tomto "nabiehani" sa film na 1-2 sekundy zasekne a po tomto case, ked uz disk bezi ako ma sa rozbehne aj film (toto nabiehanie je aj pocut, teda akoby sa zvysovali otacky + spominane zaseknutie systemu na 1-2 sekundy). Stava sa to v podstate pri kazdej praci. Idem otvorit Nautilus a ked sa disk zacne rozbiehat, tak sa vsetko na chvilku zasekne. Deje sa to ci uz pri napajani zo siete, alebo na bateriu. Notebook pouzivam v podstate kazdy den od Septembra roku 2009, cize cca nejakeho pol roka. V prilohe zasielam vypis S.M.A.R.T.-u. Ak by boli treba este nejake informacie, samozrejme ich poskytnem. Rad by som vedel, ci to je nejaka vada, alebo to tak ma byt, ci to disku skodi, alebo nie, ci to znizuje zivotnost, ci by nebolo lepsie to odstranit. V podstate teda by som rad ziskal nejake informacie o tomto "jave". OS pouzivam Debian Testing, Gnome 2.28.2, Kernel 2.6.32, teplota disku sa pohybuje v okoli 44°C.

Já mám u cca 2x staršího disku
Start_Stop_Count = 973

Takže ano, disk se patrně častěji vypíná a zapíná.

Používáte laptop mode? Děje se to bez ohledu na připojení k el. sítí?

Co je laptop mode? ... ano, deje sa to bez ohladu na napajanie. Teda robi to stale, ci som pripojeny na elektricku siet, alebo bezim na bateriu.

a co rika hdparm -B /dev/sda? vetsinou to bude kolem 128, muzes zkusit to cislo zvetsit na 198 nebo 254 a 255, to by melo eventuelne usinani uplne vypnout

jinak novy WD meli nejakou utilitu do dosu, kterou se dalo ovladat casovac disku, nez dojde k head-unload; akorat ta ultilita neni verejna a jmenuje se nejak wdidle3 nebo wdide3

Okej, skusim nastavit hodnotu na tych 254. A aky je rozdiel medzi hodnotou 254 a 255? V manualovych strankach som cital, ze hodntoa 128-254 vypne spin-down a hodnota 254 vypne uplne Advanced Power Managemenet, ale nerozumiem celkom tomu rozdielu a o co sa vlastne jedna.

Ked zmenim tu hodnotu z tych 128 na 254, aky to bude mat vplyv na HDD? Nebude sa viacej prehrievat, alebo neznizi sa zivotnost? Alebo ze by som napr. pri otrasoch prisiel o data, resp. o disk? Alebo sa jedna len o setrenie energie? Cize ked som napajany z baterie, aby bol odber co najmensi, resp. aby som usetril energiu?

no skoro vsechny disky maji nastavitelnej APM parametr 0-255, ale jak je potom ta hodnota interpretovana, to zalezi na disku

vetsinou jde o par stavu, takze 128 a 129 je to stejny, kdezto 192 je treba uz jiny stav

cim vyssi cislo, tim min bude sporit energii a min vypinat disk, coz je asi to, co bys chtel

je otazka, jestli ti disk driv odejde na caste vypinani/zapinani nebo na to, ze jede dlouho bez zastaveni

Teraz si ma trochu zneistil :) Pokladam si otazku, ci ma vobec vyznam vypinat to, ci neni lepsie to nechat tak ako to nastavil system. Pozeral som datasheet k tomu mojmu disku a konkretne tam bola uvedena aj hodnota Load_Cycle_Count. Maximum je 600.000 a moj disk ukazuje po cca pol roku pouzivania nejakych 70.000. Hladal som v datasheete aj polozku Start_Stop_Count, ale tu som tam nenasiel.
BTW po nastaveni cisla 128 na 254 mi teplota stupla na nejakych 51°C a tam sa aj drzala. Pri cisle 128 sa teplota pohybuje ako som uz spomenul, okolo 44°C.

no podle me je to hodne 70k Load cycle za pul roku, pak by v prumeru disk chcipnul za 4 roky

kdyz uplne APM vypnes, tak mas teplotu o 7 stupnu vyssi? ja bych teda to APM nechal zapnuty na ten nejhorsi stupen t.j. asi 254, jestli se nebude casto vypinat a kdyz se pak vypne, aby mu poklesla teplota

hlavne bych resil to, aby disk neusinal v prubehu prehravani filmu, jinak kazdej disk muze vzdy chcipnout a casto se to i deje  :-\

Musim zase obnovit tento thread, bo vyskytli sa nejake dalsie "problemy", resp. otazky. Pri zakladani tejto temy som pouzival dva systemy, Debian Testing a WinXP. Pri Win som si tie teploty nevsimal. Teraz uz pouzivam len Debian Testing a ziadny iny system na NB nemam. Pridal som si sledovac teploty HDD, tak to stale sledujem.
Precital som si clanok http://www.root.cz/clanky/jak-na-uspavani-disku-v-linuxu/, ale bohuzial aj po precitani clanku neviem, ako mam disk nastavit tak, aby bol a co najnizsia teplota, ale zaroven, aby tak prudko nestupal Load_cycle_count.
Ten dalsi problem, co som spominal je, ze teplota sa zacala splhat az cez 50°. Stalo sa to akosi normalne, ze zapnem NB a cca o pol hodinky mam teplotu HDD vysplhanu na 50° a to je bez zataze. Pri zatazi sa mi teplota vysplha aj na 55°. Raz som dokonca hral hodinu v kuse UT2004 a teplota sa vysplhala az na 59°. Vyrobca udava, ze pracovna teplota je 0-60°.
Zacal som si to az teraz vsimat, asi tyzden dozadu, ked sa ta teplota vysplhala az na tych 59°. Nasiel som identicky problem na Ubuntu: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1405156 a je to vraj nejaky bug, teda ak som to dobre pochopil: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/521295, len som sa nedocital, ako to napravit a v com vlastne ten bug spociva. Tak ma napadlo, ci by ten isty bug nemohol byt aj v Debian-e.
Pozrel som znova informacie zo S.M.A.R.T-u a Load_cycle je opat zvyseny na dost vysokom cisle (teraz ma NB cca 10 mesiacov):

nojo, tak to mas tezky  ;)

tak si zapni zpet APM a usinani a disk se bude casto parkovat/vypinat treba pomoci hdparm -B 1 /dev/sda a hdparm -S 1 /dev/sda

pravdepodobne poroste load-cycle-count, ale zase budes mit nizkou teplotu  :)

nejlepsi bude asi nejaka stredni cesta

jeste se da snizit rychlost vychylovani hlavicek, coz jednak snizuje hlucnost disku v random-read zatezi, ale i vykon; no mohlo by to trochu pomoct snizit teplotu v zatezi: hdparm -M 128 /dev/sda

a pak pomuze chladici podlozka pod notebook, pripadne jeste odsroubovat dvirka pod diskem, aby na nej foukal chladny vzduch

a na zaver bych doporucil delat casteji long-test (jeste jsi ho nedelal) pomoci smartctl -t long /dev/sda; tim zjistis, kdy zacne disk chcipat

a na pocitaci se pracovat neboj, disk je jenom smrtelna soucastka, kdyz odejde, tak koupis/vyreklamujes novej, nahrajes zalohu a je to, ne?  ;)

jinak pro srovnani ja mam 60GB WD Scorpio, ten radeji ani teplotu nehlasi, ale ma load-cycle-count na 268k za 9800 hodin, ale protoze si lidi na vysoky load-cycle-count stezuji, novy WD disky a konkurence uz to radeji nereportuji  ;D
